Arm Lift Plastic Surgery Overview

Arm lift, clinically known as brachioplasty, is a cosmetic surgery procedure designed to enhance the appearance of upper arms by reducing loose skin and excess fat. Arm lift may be performed as a standalone procedure, but usually it is performed in conjunction with other plastic surgery procedures to achieve more comprehensive results.

Dr. Wright Jones is an experienced plastic surgeon providing arm lift and other surgeries. He receives patients from Atlanta, Buckhead, Stockbridge, Marietta, GA, and nearby communities. During the initial consultation, Dr. Jones will explain various aspects of the procedure to help the patient make an informed decision.

Sterling Candidates

People who are bothered by the unsightly appearance of their upper arms due to loose, hanging skin may be fantastic candidates for an arm lift. The condition may have occurred due to weight fluctuations, pregnancy, or weight loss following bariatric surgery.

Patients with a sedentary lifestyle may also develop drooping skin and excess fat deposits in the upper arms, which can be corrected through arm lift. The cosmetic surgeon will also determine that the candidate should be in good general health, be a non-smoker or ready to quit smoking several weeks in advance, and have realistic expectations from the procedure.

Procedure

The arm lift cosmetic surgery procedure can be performed using two different techniques. Depending on the needs of the patient, the plastic surgeon may decide to perform a full upper arm lift or a mini arm lift. Dr. Jones will carefully evaluate a patient’s condition and their personal aesthetic goals before suggesting the appropriate treatment approach to his patients in Atlanta, Buckhead, Stockbridge, Marietta, GA, and other areas.

Full Upper Arm Lift

The full upper arm lift procedure may be performed using general anesthesia or IV sedation with local anesthesia. The cosmetic surgeon will begin the procedure by placing an incision along the arm. The size and exact location of the incision can differ according to the extent of skin that needs to be removed and also the location of the loose skin flap.

In exceptional cases, the incision may go from the armpit to the elbow in order to reduce large amount of loose skin. If excess fat needs to be removed along with skin, the procedure may be combined with liposuction plastic surgery.

Mini Arm Lift

If the patient needs only a minor removal of loose skin from the upper arms, the cosmetic surgeon may decide on a mini arm lift. The difference in this case is essentially that a much smaller incision will be needed to remove the loose skin or excess fat. The surgeon will usually place the incision in the armpit so that the scar becomes much less noticeable than in the case of a full arm lift.

Results

The results of an arm lift surgery can be seen almost immediately, but optima results will develop gradually over a period of about three months as the swelling disappears. Scar will fade in about one year to become much less conspicuous. Results can be sustained for a long time as long as the patient maintains an active and healthy lifestyle.
