Labiaplasty Surgery Recovery

Labiaplasty Surgery RecoveryRecovery is an essential part of any cosmetic or reconstructive surgery, especially in the case of intricate cosmetic surgery procedures such as labiaplasty.

In an elective surgery, candidates may like to learn more about the recovery process and the approximate downtime to make a well-informed decision.

During the pre-op consultation, the surgeon will inform the patient about various facets of the surgery, including recovery, and address all her questions and concerns.

Muse Plastic Surgery, led by double board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Wright Jones provides labiaplasty to patients in Atlanta, Buckhead, Stockbridge, Marietta, GA, and surrounding communities in this region of the country.

Immediate Post-operative Phase

The labiaplasty plastic surgery is typically performed as an outpatient procedure. Following the procedure, the patient is taken to a recovery area for 1 or 2 hours. Skilled staff will oversee the patient for vital signs while attending to her needs till she can go home.

The patient should ask a responsible person in advance to drive her back from the cosmetic surgeon’s office after the procedure. The patient will receive comprehensive recovery guidelines. These instructions will include advice on her activities, normal routine, management of pain, and follow-up consultations.

Initials Few Weeks Post-Surgery

The recovery process may differ between patients dependent on the extent of surgery performed and their natural recovery abilities. During the initial 48 hours, the patient may use ice packs on the treated site to reduce swelling. The patient should take the pain meds and antibiotics as prescribed by the surgeon.

Patients can expect inflammation and bruising post the labiaplasty cosmetic surgery. In many instances, the inflammation may remain for around 2 to 4 weeks. The patient should contact the surgeon if she feels a severe pain that does not go away with pain medicines. Pain meds may lead to constipation in some patients. Therefore, it is advisable that the patient consumes a fiber-rich diet to help keep the stools soft.

In around 24 hours post-surgery, the patient will be able to take mild walks around her home. The patient may shower on the second or third day post-surgery.

The surgeon may recommend that patient avoids wearing tight fitting clothes or thongs for a minimum of a month after the procedure. Furthermore, the patient should not undertake strenuous exercises and activities for 4 to 6 weeks after the procedure.

More specifically, the patient should avoid activities involving bouncing or jogging for a minimum of 6 weeks. She should not engage in sexual intercourse for a similar duration. Such restrictions will enable adequate healing to take place promptly and will help avoid unnecessary pressure on the incision sites.

Famous plastic surgeon Dr. Jones will carefully determine the patient’s candidacy and make an appropriate recommendation about labiaplasty.

Incision Care

The incision site should be kept hygienic and dry. Furthermore, the patient should check it every day to notice any symptoms of infection. The patient may use absorbent pads to soak any drainage. In the initial 2 weeks, she should avoid taking a bath.

The patient may place dry and clean dressings on the incisions to reduce moisture and avoid irritation occurring from clothing and undergarments.
