Your Facelift Plastic Surgery (Rhytidectomy) Consultation | MariettaFacelift is one of the most sought after cosmetic surgery procedures for both women and men. A majority of people seek this procedure after the age of 40. Pre-op consultation is an important component of the procedure, which will lay down the foundation for a successful facelift surgery.

Dr. Wright Jones is a double board certified plastic surgeon providing facelift and various other surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures. Patients in Atlanta, Buckhead, Stockbridge, Marietta GA, and other cities across the landscape have an opportunity to receive this procedure from Dr. Jones.

Determining Candidacy

To begin with, the surgeon would like to determine the patient’s fitness for undergoing a major procedure such as facelift. During the consultation, the surgeon will examine the overall health condition of the patient and go through their medical records, past surgeries if any, and the list of current medications that the patient may be taking.

If the patient suffers from an underlying medical condition, those concerns may have to be addressed first in order to minimize the risk. A few medical tests may be ordered in some cases. After considering the patient’s age, facial anatomy, skin type and degree of skin laxity in the face, the surgeon will recommend whether facelift plastic surgery should be performed independently or in conjunction with another procedure.

Assessing Cosmetic Goals

During the consultation process, the surgeon will seek to understand the reasons why the patient wants to undergo facelift surgery. The patient should feel free during the initial consultation to share their innate aesthetic needs and inform the surgeon about what exactly about their facial appearance may be bothering them.

Based on the patient’s inputs about their specific cosmetic needs and goals, the surgeon will be able to create a customized surgical plan for facelift. This will help to ensure that most effective outcomes are achieved to the patient’s satisfaction in the least invasive manner. Experienced cosmetic surgeon Dr. Jones receives patients from Atlanta, Buckhead, Stockbridge, Marietta GA, and nearby areas for facelift surgery.

Patient Education

The surgeon will utilize the consultation opportunity to educate the patient about different aspects of facelift surgery. Their first concern will be to help the patient make a well-informed decision. The surgeon will address the patient’s questions and doubts to their complete satisfaction.

Many surgeons prefer to present facelift before and after photos during the first consultation to enable the patient to develop reasonable expectations. Testimonials and reviews of past patients may also be shared so that the patient can gain insights about facelift from the perspective of other patients.

Preparatory Guidelines

During the pre-operative consultation, the surgeon will provide guidelines to the patient about how to prepare for the facelift surgical procedure. If the patient has a habit of smoking, they will be required to refrain from smoking for at least two weeks or more before the surgery is scheduled.

Certain prescription and non-prescription drugs that the patient may be currently using may have to be rescheduled or temporarily stopped. The surgeon will also offer tips for the post-op recovery phase to help the patient prepare in advance.

Facelift Plastic Surgery (Rhytidectomy) Risks and Safety | MariettaA facelift is a widely recommended and time-tested cosmetic surgery procedure with a high safety track record. However, certain risks are inherent to the surgery, just like any other surgical procedure. To minimize the risks, a patient should choose a fully trained and experienced surgeon.

Dr. Wright Jones is a double board certified plastic surgeon providing facelift surgery and various other surgical and non-surgical procedures to patients in Atlanta, Buckhead, Stockbridge, Marietta, GA, and surrounding locations.

Potential Risks

Facelift involves certain risks that are intrinsic to any surgery. These may include:

Adverse Anesthesia Reaction

General anesthesia will be performed only after evaluating the patient’s fitness, and the anesthesiologist or anesthetist nurse will remain present in the surgery room. If the patient’s response is adverse to anesthesia, they will be able to anticipate the situation early and take counter measures to reduce risk.

Infection

Some risk of infection is unavoidable in any surgery. But the risk can be mitigated if the operating facility maintains stringent hygiene standards. Risk of infection in the early recovery phase can also be minimized if the patient keeps the incisions areas covered and free of any external contact.

Fluid Collection in Incision Area

If blood or fluid collected below the skin in the incision areas, it can increase the risk of infection as well as hematoma following facelift plastic surgery. In cases of severe hematoma, a corrective surgery may have to be performed. Temporary drain tubes will be placed under the skin for a few days to minimize the risk.

Nerve Damage

In exceptional cases, a nick or cut to the facial nerve may occur while the surgeon performs facelift. This can lead to numbness or even partial facial paralysis. Although the damage is mostly temporary, but some patients may need corrective surgery. An experienced surgeon will adopt a conservative approach to facelift to minimize such risks.

Unfavorable Scarring

Some amount of scarring is inevitable in a major procedure such as facelift. But an experienced surgeon will be able to hide most of the scars in inconspicuous locations or in natural facial creases. However, if the incisions are not well hidden in the hairline or behind the ears, a few small marks may show after the surgery.

Hard working and sagacious cosmetic surgeon Dr. Jones receives patients from Atlanta, Buckhead, Stockbridge, Marietta, GA, and other cities across the horizon for facelift and various other cosmetic and reconstructive procedures.

Risk Reduction

As a first step, the patient should select an appropriately qualified and trained surgeon, preferably with a board certification in plastic surgery. A board certified plastic surgeon will invest in best practices and quality standards, pursue continuing education, and follow the latest safety protocols. Such surgeons will make the procedure less invasive and more effective by using advanced surgical techniques.

During the pre-operative consultation, the patient should disclose pertinent information about their health and lifestyle habits such as smoking in a transparent way to the surgeon. The patient should have the commitment to follow the surgeon’s instructions carefully during the pre- and post-operative phases for safe outcomes.

Facelift Plastic Surgery (Rhytidectomy) Procedure Steps | MariettaFacelift cosmetic surgery procedure, clinically called rhytidectomy, is aimed at reducing facial creases and wrinkles, tightening or repositioning underlying weak muscles, and providing a subtle lift to the face. During the pre-op consultation, the surgeon will explain various steps involved in the facelift surgery. When the patient is fully aware of the procedure, it will help to improve their confidence and reduce pre-surgery anxiety.

Double board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Wright Jones provides facelift and various other innovative and advanced cosmetic and reconstructive procedures. Patients in Atlanta, Buckhead, Stockbridge, Marietta, GA, and surrounding locations have an opportunity to receive facelift from Dr. Jones.

Anesthesia

Administering of anesthesia is the first key step in a major plastic surgery procedure such as facelift. General anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation may be used as per the surgical plan. In case of general anesthesia, the patient’s fitness will be evaluated in advance.

An anesthesiologist or a registered anesthetist nurse will perform anesthesia and may be present throughout the surgery to monitor patient’s response. The patient will remain unconscious through the procedure and will be brought out of anesthesia once the surgery is completed.

Incision Placement

Following anesthesia, the surgeon will place the incisions to perform facelift surgery. The incisions will be placed in inconspicuous locations to minimize subsequent scarring. In case of traditional facelift, the incision will usually be hidden within the hairline. The incisions can vary in size and location depending on the surgical technique used.

Minor incisions may be placed within the natural facial creases because these locations heal better and the scars can be hidden more easily. In case of a traditional facelift, the incision will begin behind the hairline on one side of the head, a little above the temple. It will then follow the hairline down to the ear, continuing into the lower scalp under the hair.

Muscle and Skin Tightening

Facial skin will be lifted through the incisions to eliminate excess fat tissue or redistribute it evenly. Loose skin will be removed and the underlying weak or separated muscles will be tightened. When the facial contours are corrected, the skin will be re-draped smoothly with the help of staples or stitches.

The incision sites will initially be wrapped in bandages immediately after the facelift surgery. Experienced cosmetic surgeon Dr. Jones receives patients from Atlanta, Buckhead, Stockbridge, Marietta, GA, and other cities in the region for facelift surgery.

Multiple Procedures with Facelift

More comprehensive outcomes with facelift can sometimes be achieved when it is combined with additional procedures such as neck lift, upper face procedures such as eyelid lift or brow lift, or facial liposuction. In some cases, facial fat transfer or implants of the cheek, chin or lips may be applied along with facelift surgery.

Combined procedures can create more harmonious and natural looking results in some patients. In a few cases, facelift may be a part of a more extensive surgery such as mommy makeover. Non-surgical procedures such as dermal filler injections and Botox may also be used along with facelift surgery, depending on the patient’s unique needs.
